Watch this space! \nTrack Muster 2027 is TOCA’s first major national gathering — three days of camping\, community and outback adventure in the iconic town of Birdsville\, QLD\, on the doorstep of the Simpson Desert. \nWhether you’re arriving after completing the Simpson Desert crossing with Group 1\, heading out with Group 2\, or simply coming for the weekend — Track Muster is the place to be in July 2027. \nProposed Program\nFriday 9 July — Arrival Day\nRoll in\, set up camp\, reconnect with fellow Track owners. Welcome drinks and dinner around the campfire. Group 1 Simpson Desert travellers arrive after completing their crossing. \nSaturday 10 July — Main Day\nA full day of activities and local attractions\, including: \n\nSunset run to Big Red — the tallest sand dune in the Simpson Desert (~30km from Birdsville)\nScenic flights over the Simpson Desert and Goyder Lagoon (bookings essential)\nBirdsville Billabong — birdwatching\, wildlife and a classic outback morning\nThe iconic Birdsville Hotel — cold drinks and a curried camel pie\, as tradition demands\nTech talks and campfire yarns — share knowledge\, trip stories and setup tips\n\nSunday 11 July — Farewell Day\nBreakfast together\, final farewells. Group 2 participants depart Birdsville and head west over Big Red to begin their Simpson Desert crossing. \nWho Is This For?\nTrack Muster is open to all TOCA members and Track Trailer owners and enthusiasts. You don’t need to be doing the Simpson crossing to attend — the weekend event stands on its own as a brilliant outback experience. \nLocation\nBirdsville\, QLD — approximately 1\,600km west of Brisbane. This is a genuine outback adventure just to get there. Depart Birdsville immediately after Track Muster closes\, cross the Simpson Desert west to east\, and finish at Mount Dare or Dalhousie Springs in South Australia. \nAt a Glance\n\nDirection: East to West (Birdsville\, QLD → Mount Dare/Dalhousie Springs\, SA)\nDeparts: Sunday 13 July 2027 — the day after Track Muster closes\nFinishes: ~Thursday 17 – Saturday 19 July 2027 (depending on route and pace)\nDuration: Approximately 4–7 days in the desert\nSuitable for: Anyone not constrained by school terms — couples\, retirees\, those with flexible work arrangements\n\nThe Route (Proposed)\nThe crossing runs east to west\, departing Birdsville and heading over Big Red on day one\, then traversing the desert via the QAA Line toward Dalhousie Springs and Mount Dare. The full route will be confirmed by the trip leader closer to the event. \nKey highlights along the way: \n\nBig Red (Nappanerica Dune) — the iconic first challenge departing Birdsville\, tackled fresh from Track Muster\nPoeppel Corner — the three-state meeting point of QLD\, SA and NT\nDalhousie Springs — natural thermal springs at the western edge of the desert\, a brilliant way to conclude the crossing\n\nWhat You’ll Need\nSame requirements as Group 1. The Simpson Desert demands thorough preparation regardless of direction. Minimum requirements will be confirmed by the trip leader\, but expect to need a capable 4WD\, sand flag\, UHF radio\, adequate fuel and water\, recovery gear\, Desert Parks Pass\, and a satellite communication device. \nConnects To\nGroup 2 departs from Track Muster 2027 in Birdsville (9–11 July 2027). Attending Track Muster before the crossing is strongly encouraged — it’s the perfect way to meet your fellow travellers and get your gear checked over before heading west. \nThis is an early draft.
